Some of London’s best African and Caribbean chefs and cooks are coming together to take part in the first annual African and Caribbean food tasting event this summer. The free festival will play host to over 14 national cuisines from around Africa and the Caribbean including Jamaica, Nigeria, Ghana and Barbados.

"A West African Cook Book: Good Food From Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone" is an excellent cookbook, one of the best African cookbooks ever. By focusing on these four countries Ms. Wilson has produced a wonderful book, probably better than if she had tried to cover the entire continent (as many African cookbooks try to do).

The White House says this trip will focus on strengthening economic growth, democratic institutions, and African leadership. Well what about African food? Cooking from this restaurants includes okra and black-eyed-pea-based dishes. Senegalese cheb (a national dish of fish and vegetables over flavored rice), mafe (peanut sauce with lamb or chicken), and yassa (fish or chicken with a mustard-onion relish).

Burkina Faso, once known as Upper Volta, and as the longtime kingdom of the Mossi people. French forces colonized this part of West Africa in 1896. In 1958, the region achieved self-governance, becoming the Republic of Upper Volta, and by 1960 had gained complete independence from France. Burkina Faso means "the country of honorable people". Its capital is Ouagadougou.
