Turkish Lentil Stew

Ingredients

1 cup
red lentils
1  
large onion (chopped)
4 cloves
garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon
butter
1 pound
beef or lamb (cut into 1" cubes)
1 teaspoon
salt
1⁄4 teaspoon
pepper
1⁄4 teaspoon
chilli powder
1 teaspoon
tumeric
1⁄2 teaspoon
cumin
1⁄4 cup
rice
2 cups
water
   
juice of 1 lime

Instructions

How to make Turkish Lentil Stew?

Soak lentils.

1. Brown chopped onions and garlic in butter.
2. Add lentils, then the meat, and enough water to cover (about a cup).
3. Add salt, pepper, chilli, cumin and tumeric.
4. Bring to the boil and simmer for about one hour, then add the rice and another cup of water.
5. Stir well and cook 20-30 minutes, or until rice is cooked.
6. Lime juice should be added just before serving.
