MUSIC – CULTURE – ART – FASHION

The Africa Centre is back with its vibrant #SUMMER #FESTIVAL

The Africa Centre Summer Festival takes over the streets around its new home just three minutes walk from Tate Modern and Southwark tubes. Come experience great music from across the African and Black British music scenes with THREE STAGES.

Joining us will be DEE AJAYI, HAK BAKER, AFRIKAN BOY, BIG TOBZ, MOELOGO, SEEDS OF CREATION, AMIRA KHEIR + MORE…

Move to the beats from midday to sundown, meet with cool fashion, jewellery, accessories and beauty brands, indulge yourself with some delicious food, take selfies using the hashtag #AfricaSummerFestival and have loads of fun!

The Africa Centre Summer Festival will be enhanced by other family and kid-friendly activities as well as a commissioned pop-up cinema and bar installation by British-Nigerian inside artist and designer Yinka Ilori in one of the Africa centre’s two railway arches at Old Union Yard.

Visual art at the festival also features special installations from celebrated sculptor, Sokari Douglas Camp CBE whose “Corten Head” will be unveiled just outside the Africa Centre. In Surrey Row, the Sulger-Buel Lovell Gallery will showcase the work of two highly original talents, Zimbabwe based artist Georgina Maxim and Ghanaian artist Larry Amponsah.

The Africa Centre will also present its plans for the re-development of its new home in Southwark, which include the opening of its café-bar alongside its very own and resolutely contemporary performance space as well as future activities programmed at its co-working space THE HUB.

Other attractions of the day will include a pop up from Bala Baya, fusing their North African heritage by dishing out delicious delights to fuel your day time exploring. As the night descends, Bala Baya will host their own Africa nights party, serving you cocktails all the way till 4am, come sip and wiggle with our live DJ playing the best tropical beats!
