A new wave in African cuisine is slowly but surely manoeuvring itself into London’s foodie scene. From Ghanaian street food to Ethiopian restaurants, African food is here and it’s about to make its mark even bigger and better.
A quiet food revolution which began with Spinach and Agushi, Eat Jollof London and Zoe's Ghana Kitchen has continued with Chalé! Let’s Eat, Chuku's Nigerian-inspired tapas lounge and now foodie lovers have been given Jasons Little Kitchen.
To inspire a nation and the world, the capital London gets its first ever Jollof rice competition and the 3rd annual Best Caribbean Rum Cake Competition. The baking competition was initially established to spread awareness of the Caribbean rum cake baking tradition to a new generation of Londoners.
This is the biggest competition in the African domestic cooking scene. You have to enter. With the rise in African music in Afro-beats with the rise in African fashion in hot designs from our heritage we see a rise in African cooking. This September sees the not-for-profit supermarket project on the road again in south London to recruit more new members.
The Afrikan Food Hall will be holding an open membership day in Brixton where people can sign up to the new African and Caribbean fresh food store where they will save up to 30 per cent on their shopping when the store opens. The annual Africa Centre Summer Festival celebrates the continent's rich cultural heritage through musical performances, visual arts, film, fashion and food. This year's Festival "August in Africa" will once again take place in London's iconic Covent Garden on 1st August 2015.
A fun filled social event with a choice of Ghanaian food as well as music, decorations, display stalls and video/picture shows on the work of Ashanti Development. Bring your own alcoholic beverages. This is a second Taste of Ghana or the second annual raising event fund. Take this opportunity and chance to try Ghanaian cooking from an expert cooking team.
Come to our free open membership days for the Afrikan food hall on Sat April 11 Clapham Library, Sun April 12 Brixton Library and Sat April 18 Streatham Library in London. All events start at 2 pm to 7 pm.
